Frequently asked questions
Can I really buy QuickBooks Desktop without a subscription?
Yes — but only a 2021 or earlier perpetual license. Intuit does not sell any non-subscription QuickBooks Desktop product today. Every current version (Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Enterprise) is an annual subscription.
Will it stop working after a year?
No. A perpetual license has no expiry. Once activated, the software runs on your computer for as long as your PC runs it. What ended in May 2024 were Intuit’s connected services and support — not your right to use the software.
Is this a “lifetime license”?
It’s a perpetual license, which is not the same thing as lifetime updates. You own the right to use QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 permanently. You do not receive future versions, feature updates or security patches.
Can I install it on more than one computer?
QuickBooks Pro supports up to 3 simultaneous users on a local network, but each user requires their own license. A single license covers one user. Contact us if you need a multi-user setup.
Can I move it to a new computer later?
Yes. Deactivate or uninstall on the old machine, install on the new one, and reactivate with the same license and product number. Our guide covers the process step by step.
Will it open my existing QuickBooks company file?
It opens .QBW files from 2021 and earlier directly. A file created in a newer version (2022 or later) cannot be opened in 2021 — QuickBooks company files are not backward compatible.
Does it run on Windows 11?
Yes. QuickBooks Desktop 2021 is 64-bit and runs on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Can I add payroll later?
No. QuickBooks Desktop Payroll for 2021 was permanently discontinued and cannot be reactivated. If you need payroll, you’ll need a current subscription version or a separate payroll service.
Is this legal to resell?
